Gillian Kyle takes the tops honours in the Summer Meeting

Gillian Kyle

After over a year and a half when no WestVets golf has been played, it was great to have 63 of our members playing at
Cathkin Braes in the Summer Meeting and Championship qualifier.

A enormous thanks to Cathkin for allowing us to play the competition this year, after last year had to be cancelled.

The course was in excellent condition considering the downpour they had during the night. Thankfully there was only one shower – albeit a very heavy one for a few holes!

The committee would like to thank Cathkin Braes for allowing us to use their course and accommodating a large number of players especially at this difficult time for all golf clubs.

A special thanks for all the help we received from Bill Bain, the Secretary. Thank you also to the catering staff for looking after us so well throughout the day.

Finally, many thanks to Sandra MacDougall for all her hard work, getting her head around the new handicapping system and recording. Thanks also to May, my Vice captain for helping get the Championship and handicap draw completed.

Death of past West Vets Secretary Hattie Forrest

It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of Hattie Forrest.

She was Elected as Secretary  of the West Vets in 2001 - served with Captains Aileen Wilson,  Anne Burden and Constance Wright - and retired as Secretary in 2005
Hattie was a lovely lady who played her golf at Troon Ladies.

Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.

2021 Spring Meeting at Lanark is cancelled due to Covid Restrictions

Who would have thought that a year down the line, and we are still living under COVID restrictions!

Following a Committee Meeting on Monday 1st March 2021, here is an update on this year's Fixtures.
Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions we are all in at the moment and also the uncertainty of what the next steps are, we made the decision to cancel the Spring Meeting at Lanark GC on the 7th April.

At the moment, the rest of the Fixtures remain in place.

Next on the Fixtures Card is the Summer Meeting & Championship Qualifier at Cathkin Braes GC on the 12th May followed by the Championship at Renfrew GC on the 18th & 20th May.
Followed by two team matches on the 27th May at Troon v Midlands (handicaps 10+) and 1st June at Douglas Park v East (handicaps < 9 ).

I would like to think these may get played in some sort of format. Can you please let Sandra or myself know if you are available to play in either of these matches.

All things are subject to COVID restrictions being eased and golf clubs allowed to have visitors.
We will keep you updated as soon as we get information, we will open up the entries for the Summer meeting on the website. Any information/updates will be emailed to all members and put on the website.

Take care, stay safe and hopefully we will all meet up soon on the golf course.

Chris Fowler (Capt.)
