AUTUMN MEETING AT WEST KILBRIDE - RENA SIMPSON WINS THE MARY CRADDOCK TROPHY

After no WestVets golf in 2020, we have managed to get our season completed bar one competition.

Our Autumn Meeting at West Kilbride was our last competition of the year, with 75 vets competing. I think everyone agreed it was worth waiting for – the weather was really kind to us, no wind, not cold and by lunchtime, the sunwas shining, lovely views what more could we ask for. Well, probably less bunkers!!

Congratulations to Rena Simpson of Kilmalcolm Golf Club who came in with a nett 70 to be the overall winner of the Autumn Meeting and the recipient of the Mary Craddock Trophy.

Rena also also the best Super Vet.

Gillian Kyle, East Renfrewshire GC came in with the best scratch score of 80, with May Hughes, Lanark GC runner up with 81 (last 6 holes)

The Division 2 winner was Lana MacDonald of Hilton Park GC with a nett 74.

Many thanks to West Kilbride GC for the use of their course, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play on such a great course.

Gillian Kyle leads the West Vets Championship Qualifiers at Troon Portland

Gillian Kyle

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A MONTH MAKES !!

92 West Vets put recent horrible weather behind them and took part in the Summer Meeting and Championship Qualifier at Troon Portland in wonderful conditions. Viewing Arran in the background and enjoying good company made those, like myself, forget about the bad scores whilst others revelled in the conditions to produce excellent scores.

Congratulations go to overall winner Alex Glennie (pictured right) with a superb nett 70 (bih), beating Gillian Kyle also with a nett 70, but who had an amazing gross score of 72.

Morag Key

Special mention must be made of Morag Key (Ralston) who was 3rd overall with a nett 74, but was certainly the Super Vet of the day.  There must be something in the Paisley water !

Maureen retains the West Vets Bronze Championship

The Bronze Chamionship Final was played yesterday at Renfrew Golf Club between Maureen Rennie (Douglas Park) and Jane Thomson (Ladies Club Troon).
It was a close fought match with never any more than two holes separating them. The overhead conditions were very pleasant and the course in excellent condition. Maureen moved two clear after the 16th with a lovely par 5 and the 17th was halved giving Maureen a 2 & l victory. Well done Maureen and well played Jane.
Unfortunately due to a fire in the kitchen and dining area at the Club, we were unable to celebrate Maureen's win.
The club had a bar area set outside, but as we left the course, the heavens opened and it did not seem a good idea to hang around!

We plan to celebrate some other time!

The postponed final of the West Vets championship took place today at Renfrew Golf Club between our captain, Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) and Linda MacDougall (Greenock). The course was in extremely good order and the overhead conditions were ideal for golf. Helen played extremely good, steady golf and was the very worthy winner. We wish her well when she heads to Blairgowrie in September to compete in match play against the other Scottish area champions.
