The 52nd AGM of the West Vets

With the current government guidelines, this AGM will unfortunately not be taking place.

This year there were no fixtures, no team matches, therefore unfortunately no prizes to be given out and no reports on international matches to be read out, also no real issues have arisen throughout the year.

Here are all the reports and the fixtures which would ordinarily be read out at the AGM.

FINANCIAL REPORT

Treasurer’s Report for SVLGA (West) for year to 30 September 2020

This year ending at 30 September 2020 has been an inactive year as far as golf competitions are concerned. As regards finance , as usual ,we ingathered fees from October 2019 to February 2020 including including those of 26 new members. You will see in the Income and Expenditure Account for the period , which should be received by email, the current bank balances.

Before the lockdown we paid Affiliation Fees to SVLGA of £1470 but this was refunded by SVLGA on cancellation of all competitions for the whole season.

As we were fortunate to be given the equivalent dates next year for our competitions at Lanark , Renfrew , Cathkin Braes and West Kilbride we made payment to these clubs of the Courtesy payments which would have been paid had the events taken place. The only other expenses are those shown in the I & E Account.

As we are treating this year’s subscriptions as a prepayment for 2021 any member wishing to resign in 2021 should apply to Secretary for repayment of Subscription if wished.

SECRETARY'S REPORT

Sandra reported that the Membership stands at 183 – including 3 Honorary members and 2 associate members. There had been 26 resignations and 27 new members added in 2020.

There are currently 3 ladies on the waiting list. It was agreed that Sandra would contact the 3 ladies on the waiting list inspiring when it would be clearer if the 2021 fixtures were likely to go ahead.

CAPTAIN'S REPORT

This has been one of the most difficult years for all of us.

It has been nearly 7 months since we went into lockdown and changed 2020 for all of us.

Everything we did, people we saw, where we could go. Only meeting outdoors, wearing a face mask, queuing at the supermarket, no hairdressers!

We were lucky to have the golf courses opening at the end of May, this brought some form of normality back in our lives.

All the SVLGA golf competitions were cancelled, no Blairgowrie and no international matches.

All the West Vets meetings, the championship and team matches all got cancelled one by one. As a result, this years subscriptions will roll over to next year.

I would like to take the opportunity to say a huge thanks to Sandra, our secretary who, having arranged all the fixtures then had to cancel these and rearrange them for next year. She has had a lot of correspondence throughout the year with the clubs who were dealing with their own problems during this time. As a result of her hard work she has secured the same fixtures for next year.

I would also like to thank  May who has, along with Sandra,  been there every step of the way this season to help with the difficult decisions we had to make. Thanks to the rest of the committee, coming to terms with Zoom meetings!

I felt I didn’t really fulfil my role as Captain, as a result I have made the decision I would like to stay on as Captain next year to hopefully see the fixtures, matches etc. all completed.

Sandra has also agreed to do this, which is absolutely wonderful. However it is definitely her last year as secretary and we will be looking for for someone to fill her shoes. May will have another year as vice captain, Ann continuing as treasurer,  Karen and Lynn  have all agreed to stay on committee next year. Obviously we need the membership to agree to this.

Hopefully next year we’ll get back to some semblance of normality.

I hope you all stay safe and well in the months ahead.

ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS

All  Office Bearers felt that we would be willing & happy  to stay on for another year in our current roles.

We hope this will meet with the approval of the membership. It is difficult with no AGM to put this proposal forward to the members. We felt perhaps continuity may be the best way forward with whatever 2021 has in store for us.

If any members feel they wish to say anything regarding this proposal or have a proposal of their own, then best way initially would be to get in touch with either myself or Sandra.
