West Vets Fixtures & update July 2020

On the 8th July West Vets Secretary Sandra MacDougall sent out an email to all the West Vet Members from Captain Chris Fowler -- In was you did not receive it or have not read it -- here is the Covid-19 update for the Association ------

The Committee held a Zoom meeting on the 6th July to discuss our fixtures for 2020 and how we go forward into 2021. 

1. We took account of what Scottish Golf had to say about Open Competition, Elite Amateur or indeed Professional events: 
"At present, it is not currently envisaged that these type of events will return for some time yet" 
Along with the SVLGA's early decision to cancel all their competitive golf events this year, we have decided to cancel our Autumn Meeting at West Kilbride in September. East Vets have already made the decision to cancel the Foursomes Match in August

2 Since we have not been able to hold any events this year, we felt that it is only fair to carry forward your subscription payments into 2021. We hope this meets with your approval.

3. It is hoped that all our 2020 fixtures will remain the same for 2021. Same venues, approximately the same dates for competitions and matches. Sandra has been in touch with all the clubs we were going to use and is hopeful this will be the case.

With so much uncertainty about golf this year, we felt we should make these decisions now and let you know the situation as it stands.

I will be in touch later in the year with any news about fixtures and what will happen about our AGM.

These are certainly unprecedented and extraordinary times.

WEST VETS TEAM MATCHES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED

I have been in touch with the East and Midlands Captains regarding our up and coming Team Matches. We have agreed that these scheduled matches cannot go ahead following the latest Government directives.
Consequently -
                          28th May West v Midlands at Troon
                          2nd June West v East at Douglas Park
Have been cancelled.
Whether these matches can be rearranged later in the season is impossible to predict. We will keep you posted.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS

‘With today’s weather, it is difficult to think about golf !!’  Those were my opening words last year, so let’s hope we have more luck and better weather soon for season 2018.

Before I welcome our new members, I feel I should give you a development regarding our Summer Meeting, which may be a disappointment to some. Due to a misunderstanding on our part and on the part of Royal Troon, they were offering us Troon Portland and not the Championship course.  We do apologise but overall we will still be playing a lovely course, and for several of us this will not be nearly so daunting !!

We would like to warmly welcome a large number of new members this year, namely Catherine Malcolm (Prestwick St Nicholas),  Eileen Hutchison (Ralston), Lynda Bradley & Cherry Briggs (Kilmacolm), Carol King (Clober), Mary McLean, Laura Macdougall, Barbara Aitchison & Aileen MacIntyre (Douglas Park), Patricia Syme (Hilton Park), Debbie Peberdy (Kilmarnock Barassie), Maureen McDevitt & Julie Dickson (Whitecraigs), Jennifer Gough (Clydebank & District), Fiona Armour (Renfrew), Nanette Mutrie (Milngavie) and Carolyn Christie (Troon).

It would be great if you could put these 3 dates in your diaries for our Meetings which are as follows :

AUTUMN MEETING – DOUGLAS PARK GC on Mon 3^rd September.

We would love to see as many entries as possible, as this creates a lovely atmosphere for which the West Vets is well known. We would also urge you to support the catering at each of these clubs, as they very kindly offer us courtesy of their courses.  We would also ask that you consider buying an item of our West Vets clothing, and this season Chris Fowler and Mary Wylie have worked on acquiring new gilets and shirts which hopefully will be on view at our first Meeting.  It does impress a Club when they see a large number of ladies in our colours, and some of you may also need them for our team matches.

Your fixture cards were either taken at the RLCGA Beetle Drive on Feb 4^th, or they will be arriving shortly by post.

The weather is cold, snow on the ground and not much golf to speak of unless you live down in Ayrshire at the coast.  

Still, the days are stretching and we are on the way to hopefully will be a great golfing year.  

To whet your appetites with a look at the Courses we will be playing this year, I have sent out the Fixture Cards to your Home Clubs wherever possible.  Otherwise, you will receive by post.

Meantime you will be able to find the fixture card on the link on the RHS of the Website plus the ENTRY FORM for the Spring Meeting over Elderslie Golf Course

COLLECT YOUR FIXTURE CARD AT YOUR HOME GOLF CLUB AND ENTER FOR THE SPRING MEETING AT KILMACOLM

As agreed at our AGM in November, the Fixture Cards for 2014 have been delivered to your Home Club in order to avoid postal charges.  You should, therefore, collect them from there within the next few days.

The Clubs that I couldn't deliver to, I sent them by post.  Most of them will have them by now .
