2006 AGM at Cowglen Golf Club

The AGM was held today at Cowglen Golf Club.
Constance Wright (Captain) gave a superb report on the 2006 events which are all covered on this website.
Mo Neilson and Sally Coster retire from the committee and are replaced by Jennifer Graham (Haggs Castle) and Sarah Scott (Troon Ladies)
Pat Walker (Ranfurly Castle) is the new Captain of the West Vets and Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) is the new Vice Captain.

Pat Hutton (Captain of the Scottish Vets) gave a very good report of the success of the Scottish Vets team in winning the Miller Stirling Trophy at Formby Golf Club

West Vets regain the Elise Duncan Trophy

The rescheduled match between the West and East was played in glorious conditions at Troon Portland yesterday. In a very closely contested match the West team were able to regain the Elise Duncan Trophy by winning 5 - 4.

The Prize List and Results from Blairgowrie

Helen Faulds the West Division champion put up a good fight in the semi finals of the Scottish Veteran Women's Championship today against the North area over-50s title-holder Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose). However, she eventually lost 2 and 1 to Kathleen.
Kathleen (pictured above with SVLGA President Dawn Moor) then produced an inspired spell of putting in the final to win the championship over the Lansdowne course at sunny Blairgowrie.
Kathleen beat Noreen Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh) by 4 and 3 in the final after holing single putts on the last five greens, two of them for birdies, at the 12th and 14th.
Noreen is in the SLGA-selected Scotland team for the senior women's home internationals at Hamilton Golf Club next midweek as is Helen. Kathleen is a reserve.

Helen gets her revenge against Fiona De Vries

Torwoodlee’s Liz Campbell is the only former title-winner through to Monday morning’s semi-finals in the Scottish Veteran Ladies GA Championship over the Lansdowne course, Blairgowrie.
In todays quarter-finals, delayed because of heavy rain, Liz beat Margaret McGregor (Dumfries & Co) by 6 and 5 and will now play Noreen Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh). Noreen beat Jean Brydson (Castle Douglas) by 6 and 4.
The other semi-final will feature Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose), a 4 and 2 winner against Vivien Welsh (Elgin), and Helen Faulds (Douglas Park), 4 and 2 conqueror of the Scottish senior women’s match-play champion Fiona de Vries (St Rule).
Sunday's results:
Quarter-finals
Noreen Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh) beat Jean Brydson (Castle Douglas) 6 and 4.

West Vets do well at the British Seniors at Dumfries and County

Hampshire player Christine Quinn won the weather-affected Senior British women's open amateur golf championship for the first time at Dumfries and County today
Despite being one of the 27 players who had to halt their second finish when the course became waterlogged on Wednesday afternoon and resume it this morning, she was able to keep her concentration and clinch an easy six-stroke win with rounds of 75 and 78 for an aggregate of eight-over-par 224.
Top Scot was former Scottish women's amateur champion Fiona Anderson from Blairgowrie. who finished joint seventh.
Fiona De Vries (St Rule) finished with one of the better scores of the third round – a 77 which lifted her up to joint 11th place with a total of 238. Moira Thomson (North Berwick) was 3rd Scot with a total of 239
Helen Faulds (Douglas Park)was the 4th best Scot and 15th overall with a total of 240 with an excellent final round of 79. Pat Hutton (Lanark) also had a 79 in the final round to finish on 242.
Janice Paterson (Drumpellier) also made the final cut to finish in the top 40 out of a field of 100 players which was an excellent achievement in what had been an exceedingly hard 3 days with all the dreadful weather they had to endure

Torrential Rain Spoils the Autumn Meeting

The Autumn Meeting played over Caldwell golf Course today was spoilt by torrential rain throughout the day.
Only 26 player ventured out and Maureen Neilson (Greenock) had the best gross of the day with an 83. She also had a net 75 with Elinor Grant (Douglas Park) who was the Winner of the Net award.
Maureen Rennie (Douglas Park)was 2nd with a net 78 by virtue of the better inward half.
Aldi Russel (Ralston golf Club) was the winner of the Bronze Division with a net 81.
The weather was so bad that the SSS 72 went up to a CSS 75 (Reduction only)

After the final at Machrihanish today the SLGA anounced the team for the Scottish Seniors Home Internationals to be held at Hamilton Golf Course at the end of September.
The team is : Lorna Bennett (Ladybank) , Elizabeth Campbell (Torwoodlee),Fiona de Vries (St Rule), Helen Faulds (Douglas Park), Noreen Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh), Moira Thomson (North Berwick),Pamela Williamson (Baberton )

Helen loses in the Scottish Seniors Championship Finals

Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) knocked out the 2005 Matchplay Champion Pamela Williamson (Baberton) in the semi finls of the Scottish Seniors Matchplay Championship at Machrihanish this morning. In a brilliant display of golf in very windy conditions Helen managed to clinch the tie on the 18th hole with a 1 hole victory.
In the afternoon final the wind picked up to about a four club difference and Fiona De Vries (St Rule) managed to be the better of the finalists on the day to become the 2006 Champion by beating Helen 4/3

Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) beat Rose Anderson (Huntly) 5 /4 and Jennifer Mack (Haggs Castle) beat 3rd seed Lynn Terrey (Cruden Bay) 5/4 to progress to the quarter final stages of the Scottish Seniors Matchplay Championships at Machrihanish today.
Helen then played Jennifer in the quarter finals in the afternoon and in a very exciting game Helen came to the fore with a 2 holes win

After the 2 qualifying stroke play rounds today at the Scottish Seniors Championships at Machrihanish Helen Faulds (Douglas Park), Janice Paterson (Drumpellier) and Anna Telfer (Milngavie) won the 1st,2nd and 3rd Net aggregate awards. Jennifer Mack (Haggs Castle) plus the 3 SLGA Prizewinners pictured above also qualified for the matchplay stages

Helen Faulds to play Fiona De Vries in SVLGA Championship

The line-up for the quarter-finals of the Scottish Veteran Ladies Golf Association championship at Blairgowrie on Sunday, September 24 has now been finalised.
The eight competitors has each won an area championship final this summer.
The draw is:

West Vets win foursomes against the East

The West Vets narrowly defeated East Vets by 3 games to 2 in the annual foursomes match for the "Friendship" salver held over Gullane No 2 this afternoon. The match was played in absolutely glorious weather.
The West team was :
Sandra Gilchrist and Moira Cameron, Sally Coster and Merope Dunlop, Fiona Roger and Patricia Brown, Anne Dunn and Sheilagh Osborne and Maureen Mitchell(Old Ranfurly) and Fay Storey.

Pat Hutton's Team wins the SVLGA Area Team Championship

The 2006 Scottish Vets Winning Team
Scotland won the Veteran Ladies Golf Association’s area team championship for the Miller Stirling Trophy at Formby Golf Club today.
The team, captained by Pat Hutton (Lanark and SVLGA -- West Division), clinched the title with a sweeping 7-2 win over North of England, last year’s winners. The victory completed a three wins out of three record over the three days for Scotland.
The Scots had one hand on the trophy when they made a 3-0 clean sweep of the morning foursomes and took the singles 4-2 with wins by Lorna Bennett (Ladybank), Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose) and Pamela Williamson (Baberton) plus halved matches involving Moira Thomson (North Berwick) and Fiona De Vries (St Rule).

Scotland Vets have a second win at Formby

Scotland are favourites to win the Veteran Ladies Golfing Association’s area team golf championship for the Miller Stirling Trophy at Formby Golf Club, Lancashire.
The Scots, skipper by Pat Hutton (Lanark and West Vets), are the only team left with a 100 % record going into the last day’s play. They followed up their 6 ½-2 ½ win over South by beating English Midlands 5-4 in very windy conditions on Wednesday.
Defending champions North of England, surprisingly beaten 5-4 by South of England on the second day, are Scotland’s final opponents.
The Scots lost the foursomes 2-1 to Midlands and then lost the first two singles which left them trailing 4-1 with four ties to finish.
“The tail wagged splendidly,” said Pat Hutton, “because we won the last four ties through Lorna Bennett, Kathleen Sutherland, Margaret Tough and Noreen Fenton.”

Scotland Vets make Winning Start

Scotland made a winning start to the Veteran Ladies Golf Association area team championship at Formby Golf Club, Lancashire today.
They beat South of England 6 ½ to 3 ½ after making a 3-0 clean sweep of the foursomes.
“The girls are tired but happy. We had very heavy showers in the morning and a very strong wind in the afternoon so the conditions were physically testing,” said Scotland captain Pat Hutton.
Scotland’s winners in the singles were Pamela Williamson (Baberton), Noreen Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh) and Margaret Tough (Falkirk). Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose) had a square match.
In the other tie of the opening day, North of England, holders of the Miller Stirling Trophy, beat English Midlands 5½-3½.
