Janice Paterson and Jennifer Mack were 7th in the foursomes
In the singles played over Vilamoura Old Course, Sheena McIlroy from Ireland won, do not know the scores, no copies handed out, maybe 78--82
They split us into division handicap 1-5,6-12,13-18 etc etc

Janice won the 6-12 category 85,87
Jen who struggled on the 1st day of the singles had a better day 2 -- 88

The weather was dry and windy for the singles but still wet under foot after the poor weather on Wednesday for the Foursomes

It was so badly organised but great fun and the courses are fab
Janice is now taking Jen to the aeroporto now

The message I have recived so far from Janice was ---
Water logged course, -- rained all day
Do not know the results because it is so badly run.
We had a gross 80 net 76

SLGA AGM AT PERTH TODAY

REPORT TAKEN FROM THE GILLIAN KIRKWOOD WEBSITE

SLGA Chairman Shona Malcolm (pictured above with Nancy Chisholm) welcomed a full house to the Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association Limited AGM at the Dewars Centre in Perth this morning.
Before proceedings began, President, Emma Wilson, paid tribute to past Chairman, Anne Fraser, a member of Turnberry and Ayrshire, who died in 2010.
The Chairman's report had already been circulated and Shona picked out particular highlights, including the Scottish Ladies' team victory in the Home Internationals and third place in the European Team Championships, the Seniors' team fantastic victory in the European Senior Team Championships and our Junior team's runner-up spot in the Junior Home Internationals. On the individual front, Pamela Pretswell had won the British Stroke Play Championship and Kelsey Macdonald had been runner-up in the British Amateur and had won the Scottish Championship. Pamela and Sally Watson had represented GB&I in the Curtis Cup at Essex County Club, near Boston, Mass.
Shona also touched on the Performance and Development aspects of the SLGA remit, as well as giving thanks to those who had helped SLGA last year.
Finance Director, Lynne Terry, reported that SLGA Ltd had shown a healthy surplus of £61,000 last year, largely due to prudent cost control and some events costing less than expected. The fall in the number of lady golfers was once again evident at 4.1%, but an increase in subscriptions by £1 had absorbed that potential shortfall.
The report of the Scottish Representative on the Executive Council of the Ladies Golf Union, Janet Wake, had also been previously circulated, and Janet highlighted some of the coming events in the 2011 season, in partcular the Ricoh Womens British Open at Carnoustie, 28-31st July, the Astor Trophy (previously Commonwealth Trophy) at Fairhaven 15-19th June and the Vagliano Trophy Match against the Continent of Europe at Royal Porthcawl, 24-25 June.
Election of office-bearers went through smoothly with June McEwan (East) and Liz Scott (South) coming onto the Board. Lorna Bennett takes over from Janet Wake as Scottish Representative on the Executive Council of the Ladies Golf Union. Cara Gruber is the new North selector.
Amendments to Regulation 3.5 governing County Golf had already been disSL;GHAcussed by the County Captains and were approved at the meeting.
A "tidying up" exercise had been performed on Regulation 7 (National Championships and other Tournaments run by the SLGA) and amendments were approved at the meeting.
The proposal that annual subscriptions and fees for 2012 remain the same was also approved, with the caveat that if the amalgamation goes through then subscriptions would be different.

Amalgamation.
Chairman, Shona Malcolm and Chief Operating Officer, Sheila Hartley, presented a cut down version of the road-show that had already been shown to clubs and counties round the Country in the last few months. There were many questions from the floor. Anxiety that the proposals were proceeding at "breakneck speed" with little time to take it in, were voiced. These proposals are still at the consultation stage, and feedback from the roadshows and the two AGMS (The SGU AGM is next weekend) as well as individual feedback from clubs, counties and members will be examined at a meeting of the Amalgamation Committee at the end of January.
 Sheila Hartley asked that any comments should be made to her before 25th January ----- secretary@slga.co.uk for consideration by this committee. Once the proposal has been refined in the light of feedback, a new round of roadshows will be presented to both men and women together in the spring, with a view to holding Special General Meetings of both organisations in the latter half of May, where 75% would have to vote in favour for the proposals for it to go through. If that happens the Board of the new Scottish Golf Limited would be recruited in the summer with a view to the Amalgamation happening on 1st October.
There were questions of costs, representation, who would pay etc. It was emphasised that the proposal was a "very broad brush" at present, the minutiae of how it will all happen has not yet be finalised. Yes, there would be costs, but they would be kept to a minimum, and absorbed by both organisations. Subscriptions, currently £9 for men and £14 for women would probably settle at £11 for both genders.
SLGA County and SGU Area boundaries would remain the same. There is no proposal for Counties and Areas to amalgamate. Clubs would be the stakeholders in the new organisation, with each club's liability limited to £1.
The move to bring the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) and Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association (SLGA) together as a single governing body has gathered momentum with a formal proposal being delivered to each organisation’s members.

New Year greetings from your Captain

Another Christmas passes and a New Year begins.

May I wish every member of the West Vets a very peaceful, successful, happy and fun 2011. The weather may have prevented golf in recent weeks but hopefully before too long the clubs will be dusted down and preparation for another season will begin. I may be the only one who enjoys zero temperatures, sunshine and snow but even I will be happy to swing the golf club before too long!

I have just returned from 10 days in Boat of Garten where the golf course is more like a skating rink! I accompanied my two grandchildren to the snowy slopes of The Lecht ski centre, and in contrast, a week on Monday I shall be landing in Oz to spend some time with daughter Alison. Australian Open Tennis beckons followed by what I am sure will be a very happy few weeks enjoyed in, hopefully, higher temperatures!

I look forward to returning to green pastures and catching up with everyone at the first competition of the year.

2011 MOROCCO GOLF FESTIVAL

Request from Colin Farquharson, Tournament Director of the 2011 Morocco Golf Festival, to be played over five courses in the Marrakech area from October 8 to 15. The AGM of the West Vets was held today -Thursday 4th November- at Cowglen GC.
Fiona Rogers (Ranfurly Castle) was appointed Captain of the West Vets taking over from Helen Faulds (Douglas Park)


When appointed to office -- Fiona then gave her speech:

They say the older you get, the faster times goes by. For a long time I always thought that was such a daft thing to say. I now believe it is absolutely true. I stand here as your new captain of the west division of the slvga, my two years as vice captain having passed in the blink of an eye, following in the footsteps of many excellent captains and hope that I can maintain their high standards.

It is also nice to know that over the last few years I have got to know many of the vets in the other divisions in scotland, and I am so glad that Emma Wilson, Midlands captain and Noreen Fenton, East captain - both areas we have our matches against - I would like to think of as ‘chums’. It brings the divisions closer and we can compare notes and feed off each other.

Helen, you have completed your 2 years of captaincy and have put a lot of time and effort into making sure that our vet’s west division has run smoothly and efficiently, and on behalf of us all, thank you for always doing this with a smile on your face. A job well done.

I have enjoyed working with you and have been treated to lunches and coffees while we have attended to ‘affairs of state.’ you have always been in control of situations even on the very few times that problems may have arisen. I am delighted that you are remaining on committee for the incoming year and I will welcome your help and advice at any time.

I would lastly like to say how well Helen has represented the west division as part of many seniors and vets teams over a number of years. winning the west vet’s championship on several occasions, going on to Blairgowrie to battle for Scottish Vet’s Champion unfortunately eluding her so far. Helen has played in several scottish vet’s teams at the annual jamboree and for the scottish team against Ireland for the Mary Mckenna trophy. A very impressive vets golfer’s cv. May I wish her success in her new role as Vice Captain of the Scottish Vet’s Team currently captained by Pam Williamson.

Election of office bearers for the coming season

I have great pleasure in proposing, as my Vice-Captain - Anna Telfer

With our current life styles it is never easy to persuade people to take on extra commitments, and I was so pleased when I asked Anna some months ago to be my vice captain, that she accepted. I telephoned her earlier this week to up date her on one or two things, and when she heard my voice, she asked me if I was just phoning to make sure that she was still happy to take up her position!!!
I know in Anna, a past club captain at Milngavie and a D & A County Captain, I have a wealth of knowledge backing me up. Not only that but Anna is always to the fore on the golf course, setting herself high standards and achieving them. I am in fact sandwitched between exceptionally good golfers - Helen and Anna - we have spent many fun times away playing in seniors events both home and abroad.

Anna doesn’t have to many free hours in her days, with golf, bridge, grandchildren and many other interests but I know that she will be a great asset to the west division of the SVLGA and I look forward to working with her over the next 2 years.

To the rest of the committee:

Helen: as Past Captain remains on committee for one more year.

I would like to propose that Ruth Henderson ( Williamwood) and Sheila Shaw (Lochwinnoch), as secretary and treasurer, having both agreed, continue in their positions.

Maureen Mitchell took Sheila’s position on committee when Sheila became treasurer, and as Helen has said, she now stands down after 2 years on committee. Janice Paterson (Drumpellier) and Moira Camerson (Whitecraigs) also stand down after 2 years. We feel, as a committee, that we do not require to have more than 6 members of committe and hope you will support our decision not to replace those standing down. It may not prove successful, in which case we would reconsider our decision next year, but the following people will be your committee for 2011:

Wendy is presented with her Honorary Membership 

One of the highlights at the AGM was that the committee were delighted to announce that they have asked Wendy Cameron to become an Honorary Member of the West Vets Association and even more importantly, she has accepted.

In Helen Fauld's Speech she stated ---

Wendy has over many years given a huge amount to both the West and Scottish Vets and indeed Scottish Ladies golf.

She has been West Vets Captain, Scottish Vets Captain and President and played in the Scottish Vets team.

She has also been a Renfrewshire Team member, Captain, President and Hon Member of the County.

In terms of SLGA, Wendy has been Chairman, President and is also a Vice President of the Association, one I may say of a very select few.

At club level she is a Life Member of Eastwood GC.

I think you would agree it’s a fantastic record both in levels of time and commitment and obviously someone who is held in high regard by so many people.

Wendy, we are delighted you have agreed to becoming an Honorary Member and you join an illustrious group of ladies ---

Scottish Vets Final Round Up

Quote --- "Blairgowrie – the pinnacle of the vets golfing year as the Tattoo is to Edinburgh Festival - followed on next and was not exactly endowed with glorious sunshine although the sun did come out now and again when it wasn’t being blown to smithereens by a fair to middling gale or soaked. There were some great nett and gross scores, the best scratch being one of the earliest through the door – or was it the earliest? – Helen Faulds of Douglas Park with a 78. This gave Helen - Captain of the West Vets, plenty of time to caddy and support her West team-mate, May Hughes in the Scroggie Cup. Since all of these results can be found on the SVLGA website perhaps this is the time to stop off and enlarge on the Scroggie Cup. It is the main Vets’ match-play event of the year."

At Sheringham Golf Club, Norfolk today, the English team won the Senior women's home internationals for a sixth time in eight years with a 100 per cent record after the three-day competition.

Day 3 Results:
IRELAND 5, SCOTLAND 3
Foursomes: M MacNamara and N Giblin bt F De Vries and L Bennett 4 and 3; H Jones and P Doran lost to M Smith and A Ryan 2 holes; S McElroy and P O'Gorman bt H Anderson and N Fenton 7 and 6 (2-1).

Scotland beaten by England at the Seniors' Home Internationals

Scotland lost their grip on the senior women's home golf internationals title when they were well beaten, 6 1/2-1 1/2 by England at Sheringham Golf Club, Norfolk.
The Scots had drawn their first-day match with Wales.
Scotland's only winner was Ladybank's Lorna Bennett who staged a grandstand finish, winning four holes in a row from the 14th, for a 2 and 1 win over Susan Dye.
The half-point came in the morning foursomes, courtesy of Fiona De Vries (St Rule) and Ann Ryan (Tain) who halved their tie with Roz Adams and Jo Ashmore.
The other match today ended in a 4-4 draw between Ireland and Wales.

Day 2 Results

SCOTLAND 1 1/2, ENGLAND 6 1/2
Foursomes - M Smith and M Thomson lost to C Marron and S Dye 4 and 2, L Bennett and H Anderson lost to J Melville and F Christine 4 and 2, F De Vries and A Ryan halved with R Adams and J Ashmore (1/2-2 1/2).

Seniors Home Internationals --- Practice Day

the Senior Ladies Home Internationals this year being held at Sheringham Golf Club in Norfolk, England which today, the first practice day, was quite definitely one of the wettest most miserable places in the whole of the UK.
