THE NEW WEST VETS GILET FOR 2018

Captain June with a medium size Gilet

Webmaster Carol fitted the Large Size
Captain June modelled the new gilet at the West Vets AGM last week. As many of you know all those who attended the AGM signed a sheet to show expressions of interest re buying a gilet next year and indicating their size.
This will help us place an order with the company and we would like an idea of any additional numbers of people who didn't attend the AGM. Could you please indicate if you are interested in purchasing one to email Sandra Macdougall --  sandra.macdougall41@gmail.com - with their size (see below)

Alternatively CLICK HERE to let Sandra know of your interest

This will not be a definite order - but will allow us to estimate the total number required when we speak to the manufacturer - and we will have samples at the first meeting next year in the various sizes for people to try on :

Small = 10
Medium = 12
Large = 14
Extra Large = 16
Extra Extra Large = 18

HUNT FOR THE MISSING TROPHY !

We have presently lost track of the Patrick Rosebowl, won by Alex Glennie at Blairgowrie last September.
After engraving work, it was delivered to Kilmarnock Barassie G.C. in November after our AGM at Cowglen.
However then the trail goes cold, even though it is a sizeable trophy in a large brown cardboard box. There is also a voucher for Alex attached or in the box.
If anyone can shed any light on its whereabouts, we would be most grateful.

NEW YEAR GREETINGS TO ALL - ESPECIALLY OUR NEW MEMBERS

With today's weather, it is difficult to think about golf !!

However it would be great if you could mark in your diaries, the 3 dates for our Spring, Summer and Autumn Meetings.

SPRING MEETING East Kilbride Golf Club TUESDAY 4TH APRIL 2017
SUMMER MEETING Ralston Golf Club THURSDAY 11TH MAY 2017
AUTUMN MEETING Douglas Park Golf Club MONDAY 4TH SEPT. 2017

The more entries invariably mean these events are more enjoyable, and it is also important to support the catering at the clubs which kindly offer the use of their course.

In particular, we warmly welcome a large number of new members :- Donna Jackson, Mandy Allan, Joyce McGregor, Wendy Hollingworth, Angela Kettlewell, Morven English, Caroline McCreath, Sheila Steel, Margaret Nicolson, Ann Shanks, Elizabeth McLean, Linda Parry, Margaret Stewart, Sheila Shedden, Carole Hill, Jane Alexander, Fiona McWhirter, Margaret Gauldie, Catherine Skinner, Beth Paterson and Christine Milroy.

As many fixture cards as possible will be distributed at the Renfrewshire Beetle Drive at Ralston on Sunday 29th January, and thereafter may be picked up at your home club.

Wishing all members a successful and enjoyable season.

PROBLEMS FOR SUMMER MEETING AT LARGS

Dear Member,
As you know, the Summer Meeting at Largs Kelburn was confirmed in writing on 7th March last year by their Secretary and myself. .On visiting the Club today to finalise arrangements, I was informed that their Secretary had resigned in February of this year and had failed to enter our fixture in their diary nor had he informed the Professional.
Needless to say I was speechless and extremely upset, even more so in that they have two Outings already arranged for the 14th May at the times we had reserved the tee.
Obviously these visitors are paying and we are not!
After lengthy negotiations, I have to inform you that rather than lose our Summer Meeting I have had to accept an earlier tee-off time of 8.30am. I know that this earlier tee-off time will affect some of the members who are travelling a distance and bearing in mind that the Draw is done in strict handicap order as it is the Championship Qualifier. We will be restricted to approximately 81 players, giving us 27 tee times with 8 minute intervals. I have to request all of you to be understanding of the limitations, restrictions and requests that we have to enforce. I will set these out numerically as it is easier to follow.

1. The lowest handicappers are out first and I would ask all players with a handicap of 9 and under who most definitely could not make the time allotted, i.e. from 8.30am
until say 9.15am, to telephone me as soon as possible in order that I may try to do the Draw to facilitate everyone. I know this may not be completely satisfactory to
everyone but again I am asking you to be understanding of our difficulty.

2. I would request all players to be on the tee at least 10 minutes before their starting time. Because the first hole is a Par 3 (and can be a little stinker!), we wish to get play moving as quickly as possible. So, if the green clears quickly then the next 3 can tee off early. Also, if any player is in difficulty perhaps it would be sensible to wave the next 3 players through before hunting for balls.

3. I have arranged for catering to be available from 8am in case any of you wish to have your breakfast there before teeing off! Also, catering will be available all day from 8am from the usual Bar Menu but they also have a really nice restaurant upstairs if anyone wishes something a little fancier!

Since arriving home later this afternoon, I have received an email from the Acting Secretary of Largs Golf Club with the sincere apologies from the Captain and the membership for the inconvenience caused to us. I would also inform you that they did manage to cancel one of the parties who had a tee-off time at 11am., but unfortunately the ladies from East Renfrewshire Golf Club are a large party and naturally the Club could not rearrange their date. They may have to put back their tee-off time but I would hope that all the West Vets would do their utmost to get play underway as quickly as possible.
I realise that this might be a bit of a shock to all of you but I can assure you that it was an even bigger one for me!!
I do hope that the Committee will have your full support and co-operation to ensure an enjoyable day for everyone.
Should you have any queries regarding the above or would like clarification on anything, please do not hesitate to contact me. (I might regret saying this!)
I realise that this Email will not affect all of you but since the closing date for entry is still 12 days away, we felt it better to send this to everyone. The Draw will be done as soon as possible after the 22nd April so please look on the Website thereafter.

Kind Regards, Morag
Your "stressed out" Secretary

2015 FIXTURE CARDS ARE ON THEIR WAY

The weather is cold, snow on the ground and not much golf to speak of unless you live down in Ayrshire at the coast.
Still, the days are stretching and we are on the way to hopefully will be a great golfing year.
To whet your appetites with a look at the Courses we will be playing this year, I have sent out the Fixture Cards to your Home Clubs wherever possible.  Otherwise, you will receive by post.

Meantime you will be able to find the fixture card on the link on the RHS of the Website plus the ENTRY FORM for the Spring Meeting over Elderslie Golf Course

Hope to see as many of you as possible at some or all of our venues.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR FOOTJOY SHOES !!

Good Evening Ladies,
I have had a phone call from Betty Connor of Cathcart Castle GC (Tel.No.577-6442) to ask if anyone took away the wrong shoes yesterday.  They were white Footjoys with a black stripe on the front and there was a pair of socks tucked inside!  If anyone took them by mistake, you should contact Betty direct.
Thank you.
Regards, Morag.

AUTUMN MEETING AT BUCHANAN CASTLE

It has been brought to my attention that the Milngavie/Strathblane/Blanefield Road (passing Killearn Road end) is closed for re-surfacing so diversions are in place.
Suggest all members use the A809 - Bearsden/Drymen Road (passing Hilton Park GC).

There is a full field on Friday, so thank you for supporting this competition and I hope the sun shines and we all play good golf!
