WEST VETS WIN THE ELISE DUNCAN TROPHY
The West Vets and East Vets Team -- Courtesy of Noreen Fenton (East Vets Captain) |
We started the day with coffee and bacon rolls followed by what is always a very competitive match played in the usual friendly and happy atmosphere and for the first time since 2006 the West team managed to wrestle back the Elise Duncan Trophy by the very narrowest of margins - 5 matches to 4. Drinks after the match followed by a lovely late lunch with a lot of chat and laughter. A wonderful end to a wonderful day!
Many thanks to Troon Portland for looking after us so well and thank you to the East team for a very happy day. We look forward in anticipation to our match, next year, in the East where we will be determined to hold on to the Trophy!

HEATHER ANDERSON WINS AGAINST JANICE PATERSON IN THE SCOTTISH MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Janice Paterson and Heather Anderson |
Heather last won the match-play title at Kinross in 2009 and was runner up in 2010 and 2011.
Anderson got off to a good start and was two up after three holes.
Janice fought back to all square after six.
Heather birdied the eighth and parred the ninth to be two up at the turn.
Heather increased her lead to three holes with a par at the 10th. Janice got one back by winning the 11th with a par but her opponent won the 12th and 13th with pars to go four up. Janice had a good par 3 to win the short 14th but she was running out of holes. Heather Anderson's par at the long 15th was enough to win the tie.
In the morning semi-finals, Janice had a good one-hole win over Linda Urquhart (Banchory) who had earlier beaten top seed Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) and former champion Pamela Williamson (Baberton).
Heather beat Karen Burns (Bathgate) 5 and 3 in the other semi-final.
The handicap championship was won by Karen Ballantyne (Craigmillar Park) who must like the air in the north-east. She won the scratch title a few years back when the tournament was played at Ballater GC.
In this week's handicap final Karen beat Leigh Duff (Cathkin Braes) by 3 and 2. Karen plays off five and Leigh 12.

West Vets Alex Glennie just misses out retaining the Scottish Senior's Strokeplay Championship
Royal Dornoch's Alison Bartlett is the new Scottish senior women's amateur stroke-play golf champion.
She won the title at Kemnay Golf Club, Aberdeenshire today after long-time leader Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) dropped four shots to par over the last four holes.
Glennie, well clear of the field, had a double bogey 7 at the 15th and bogeys at the 16th and 17th for a six-over-par round of 79 (39-40) which gave her a two-round final total of eight-over 154.
Bartlett matched that aggregate by birdieing the 17th on her way to a one-under 72 (37-35).
Glennie's downward spiral continued when she lost the sudden-death play-off to Bartlett at the first extra hole.
Tain sisters Mary Smith (81 for 158) and Anne Ryan (80 for 161) finished third and joint fifth to give the far North three players in the top six - a grand performance.
The leading 16 players go on to contest the seniors' match-play championship over the next two days.
Linda Urquhart (Banchory) was the 16th qualifier with an 85 for 168 - pipping former Scottish seniors champion Karen Ballantyne (Craigmillar Park) (83 for 169) for the final place.

ALEX GLENNIE HAS AN EXCELLENT FIRST ROUND AT KEMNAY
Alex Glennie 2011 Scottish Seniors Strokeplay Champion |
Like every golf course in the country, Kemnay is very, very wet after days, even weeks of rain and was playing every inch of its length today.
Alex Glennie (pictured above), Ayrshire county champion in 2004 and the 2011 Scottish Seniors Strokeplay champion did not have a birdie on her card but 16 pars and bogeys at two long holes, the 15th and 16th, represented a very good day's "work" for a two-over-par 73 (37-38).
She will start Wednesday's second and final round with a two-shot lead from Jill Harrison (Cruden Bay) and Mary Smith (Tain).
East Vet Captain Noreen Fenton (Dunbar), who had an 81 today, is the defending champion but is now a selector and will not take part in the 2nd qualifying round.
