HELEN JONES SHARES IRISH LEAD GOING INTO FINAL ROUND - NEWS RELEASE FROM IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Defending Irish Open Champion
Minna Kaarnalahti and current Irish Close Champion
Helen Jones (Royal Portrush) lead the field going into the final round of the 54 hole
Irish Senior Women’s Open Strokeplay at Royal Belfast, Thursday 13 September.
On a bright but blustery day, Jones and Kaarnalahti leap frogged overnight leader Gertie McMullen (The Island) after she had posted the only score in the seventies to lead the field on Wednesday evening.
Next best is local favourite Marilyn Henderson after she carded a best-of-the-day 76 in the most trying of conditions and Seniors International Sheena McElroy (Grange) who also joined her in joint second after a steady 81.

The field once again struggled on the slick greens as
gale force winds buffeted their best efforts. Ireland A won the Nations Cup by 13 strokes from Canada A and Ireland B ahead of
Scotland and the USA.
The top 40 now play the final round of 18 holes on Friday with the leaders playing at the end of the field at 11am.
