JUNE LOCKHART IS THE NEW WEST VETS CAPTAIN and AILEEN AND HEATHER ARE MADE HONORARY MEMBERS

Future, Present and Past Captains -- Chris Fowler, June Lockhart and Marion Stewart
46 ladies attended the AGM of the West Division's SLVGA which was held at Cowglen GC this afternoon - Thursday, November 3rd 2016.

Captain Marion Stewart welcomed everyone to the meeting

Reports were given by treasurer Mo Neilson and Secretary Anne Dunn. Anne indicated that there had been a few resignations this year which will allow some new members to join from the large waiting list.

Marion sadly reported the deaths of our West Vets Past President of the SVLGA Sally Coster, Scottish International and Curtis Cup Player Dorothea Hastings and Scottish Senior Internationalist Jean Brown.

She then gave an entertaining account of the years events with congratulations also going to Alex Glennie on winning the Scottish Seniors Strokeplay Championship, Gillian Kyle winning the West Vets Championship and  Fiona Roger on winning the final of the Stewart Cup.

Congratulations were given to Gillian Kyle, Carol Whyte, Lesley Lloyd and Alex Glennie who all represented us at International level.

She thanked Julie Will retiring committee member for all her help and thanked all her committee.

Honorary Members Heather Anderson, Wendy Cameron and Aileen Wilson
Marion was delighted to announce that Aileen Wilson and Heather Anderson have been awarded Honorary Membership of the West Vets and she presented them with their Honorary membership certificates. Both Heather and Aileen were delighted and both gave entertaining replies.
West Vets now have 3 honorary Members - Wendy Cameron being the 3rd - she was awarded the title in 2010

Reports from Lesley Loyd, Alex Glennie and Gillian Kyle

Lesley Lloyd gave a concise report of the Mary McKenna Perpetual Trophy at Lahinch Ireland on the 17th and 18th of April2016 .
West Vets Lesley Lloyd and Carol Whyte played in team. The remaining team members were Alison Bartlett ( Royal Dornoch ), Lorna Bennett ( Ladybank), Fiona de Vries ( St Rule ), Lorna McKinley ( Dunnikier Park ), Meg Sievwright ( Buckpool) and Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies )
Ireland were the convincing winners.

Alex Glennie's report was read out by Captain Marion in her absence that gave a  detailed account of the Scottish Vets Jamboree at Panmure Golf Club, Barry, on Tuesday 2nd, Wednesday 3rd, and Thursday 4th August under an excellent captain in Kathleen Sutherland.

The team this year contained three West Vets Alex Glennie, Gillian Kyle and Lesley Lloyd
The remaining team members were;- Fiona de Vries (Midlands) Lorna McKinlay (Midlands) Meg Sievwright (Highlands) Mary Smith (Highlands) Sheena Wood (North)
The course was in excellent condition and the greens faster than most of us had played on this season. Most of Scotland’s games going into the home stretch, we were always closer but not close enough. The main difference seemed to be the amount of 8-12ins putts the others made in comparison to us. In fact sometimes you thought they were never going to miss. If, but for a few puts it could have been us, but sadly it was the North of England who came out victorious.
Hopefully we will come out winners at Frilford next year with a few new West Vets in the team,.

Gillian Kyle then gave a detailed account  of the European Senior Team Championships in Poland  at Sierra Golf Club in Northern Poland from August 30th until September 3rd.
Under the Captaincy of Lorna Bennett, the 6 ‘woman’ team of- Fiona DeVries (Midlands) Alex Glennie (West) Gillian Kyle (West) Lesley Lloyd (West) Lorna McKinlay (Midlands) And Mary Smith (Highlands)
Scotland finished 12th and Ireland were the eventual winners.
She thanked Scottish Golf for making it all possible.

Full reports will be in the minutes when available

Marion then gave an excellent report how well the West Vets did at Blairgowrie with picking up many of the trophies including sharing the Team Trophy at Blairgowrie with Midlands

She then  presented June Lockhart her badge of office as the new West Vets captain.
June thanked Marion for all her organised work as Captain and also took the opportunity to thank all those Vets who visited her in hospital and at home, sent flowers, text messages and even food from her enforced absence from the golf course.
She then proposed Chris Fowler as her new Vice Captain which was seconded.
"Chris is a retired PE teacher spending most of her career in Pollok and Easterhouse schools - so she is sure that Chris will surely manage to keep us all in line !!"
"Chris and I  go back a long way through hockey days - a sport in which many later turn to golf. She is  a most accomplished golfer and has been the Cowglen Champion about 13 times."
She then proposed Sandra MacDougall of Greenock Golf club as a new committee member which again was seconded. She then presented retiring committee member Julie Will with a gift in appreciation for all her work.

Members are asked to pick up their fixture cards from their own Golf Clubs at the beginning of March in order to save on postage costs.

The date for the next AGM is 2nd November 2017  - 2pm at Cowglen

Honorary President Wendy Cameron then presented the prizes to this year's winners.

Some of the main prizewinners

England are the Senior Women's Home Internationals title winners for the 10th time since the tournament started in 2003. They completed a 100 per cent winning week at Alyth Golf Club, Perthshire by beating Wales 5.5-2.5 to win the Sue Johnson Trophy for the third year in a row.
Ireland beat Scotland 6-2 in today's other match on a very windy day. That meant that Ireland, Scotland and Wales finished with 1pt apiece. After a long involved three-stage countback, European champions Ireland were declared the runners-up with Wales third and Scotland last of four.
Ireland led Scotland 2-1 after the foursomes and then won the first four singles to finish to assure themselves of victory, if not by the 8-0 margin of last year's match still a comfortable margin.
Senior British champion Laura Webb was back at something like her best in beating Scotland's Alex Glennie by 6 and 5.
Gertie McMullen was also back in form with a 5 and 4 win over Lorna McKinley, achieved with one-under-par figures, quite an achievement in the bright but very breezy conditions.

Mary Sheehy won by 6 and 5 against Gillian Kyle.
Sheena McElroy gained Ireland's sixth point with a 4 and 3 win over Mary Smith. The key holes in this match were the eighth, ninth and 10th. McElroy won all three, birdieing the eighth and 10th. She was roughly level par at the finish

Scotland supporters had to wait all afternoon for a solitary home success in the singles. It was achieved by Aberdeen's Sheena Wood who had to go all the way to the 18th green to win by two holes against Suzanne Corcoran.
The Scot was four up after eight but Corcoran kept chipping away at the lead by winning the ninth, 11th and the 16th with a birdie.
Wood held her nerve and was able to win the 18th with a par 4 for a hard-earned victory.

ENGLAND OVERPOWER THE SCOTS SENIORS IN SINGLES TO WIN ON DAY 2

by Colin Farquharson

Scotland looked on their way to a shock victory over defending champions England when they led 2-1 after the Day 2 morning foursomes in the Senior Women's Home Internationals at a wet and eventually windy Alyth Golf Club, Perthshire today.
But England's strength in depth enabled them to turn the tables in the singles which they won 4.5 to 0.5 for an overall 5.5-2.5 victory which keeps them on schedule to win the title for the third time in a row and the 10th time in all.
Fiona De Vries and Lesley Lloyd won their foursomes by two holes and so too did Mary Smith and Lorna McKinlay.
The singles were not quite so one-sided in England's favour as the bare results suggest. Sheena Wood was a little bit unlucky to go down by one hole in the top singles tie while Lesley Lloyd was one up on the 18th tee but lost the last hole to let her English opponent off the hook with a square game.
European senior champions Ireland have lost their first two matches. Their 5.5-2.5 reverse by England was a body blow to the star-studded Irish side who will be out to repeat last year's 8-0 victory when they play Scotland on the final day at Alyth.
It will be a major surprise if England do not clinch the title by beating Wales.

Scotland scored their first win for at least two years in the Senior Ladies Home Internationals at Alyth Golf Club, Perthshire today, beating Wales 5-3 in their first match after losing all three 12 months ago.
The Scots took a 2-1 edge from the morning foursomes and added three more points with wins by Gillian Kyle (2 and 1 over Denise Richards),
Lesley Lloyd (2 and 1 against Olwen Davies) and Fiona De Vries (2 and 1 against Sharon Roberts).
Wales' two winners in the singles were Jane Rees, who beat Sheena Wood 3 and 2 in the lead-off tie, and former Senior British champion Ann Lewis, a 3 and 2 winner over Lorna McKinlay.
All square at the turn, Rees went two up on Wood by winning the 10th and 13th. The Scot won the 14th to be only one down but Rees took the 15th and 16th for the match.
Kyle was one up at the turn against Richards and went up at the 12th. Richards rallied to win the 13th to be only one down but halves at the 14th and 15th gave Kyle some breathing space and the Scot won the 16th and halved the 17th for a 2 and 1 win, her second of the day.
McKinlay was two up after nine against Lewis but the Welsh player went to town on the inward half, winning the 11th and 12th to square the contest and then taking the 13th, 14th and 16th for a 3 and 2 victory.
Lloyd won the sixth, 10th and 12th for a two-hole lead over Davies. The Scot then won the 14th to be three up. Davies won the 15th to be two down with three to play but she ran out of holes as Lloyd won on the 17th green.
Roberts won the ninth and 10th to square her match against De Vries. The next three holes were halved before De Vries edged ahead again by winning the 14th.
The 15th was halved. Then De Vries won the 16th to be dormie and she won by 2 and 1 to clinch Scotland's 5-3 victory.

European senior champions Ireland came a cropper in their bid to take the home title out of England's grasp. England won 5.5-2.5, taking the foursomes by a 2pt margin and the singles 3-1.

"I had an accidental fall, injuring my left elbow and it has put me out of action for a few weeks. I am very disappointed to be missing the European team championship in Poland. However, I am already back working on short game and should be ready for British, Scottish Vets title and Senior Home Internationals," said Sheena who would have been one of the top Scots in Poland.
